v4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.
Wisdom in this Proverb is speaking to us throughout the whole passage. Wisdom is crying out, calling to men. Wisdom is there for us if we are willing to receive it. We must first hear the call of Wisdom. But are men hearing the call? It shows us here that the responsibility is not on wisdom but on man to accept the call. We must eliminate the distractions which block our receptors. Wisdom is not just waiting for us but actually calling out to us. She is more than just available, but ready to dispense. Her voice calls to the sons of man. She is calling to the man. Man is responsible to hear the call and accept wisdom. We then will be better equipped lead our families.
v5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
Wisdom’s call is geared to the heart. We have to hear with an understanding heart. Our hearts must be in a place of submission to receive. Setting aside our preconceptions, we must become submissive to wisdom. Oftentimes we have our own ideas and thoughts and then when wisdom comes our thoughts override sound wisdom.
V6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
v7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
v8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.
v9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
The information that wisdom speaks is straightforward and true. We can solely trust the words of wisdom without second guessing. Wisdom is truth with no perverseness. (Add to this)
v9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
In comparison to wisdom, nothing that you can desire truly stands up. No matter what you may crave for in life, it pales to having wisdom. Wisdom should be preferred above everything else because it is the source behind everything that we may want anyway. Silver, rubies, finances, good relationships, business, all these things are the results of wisdom and will be accomplished by applying wisdom. So instead of seeking these things, prefer to seek wisdom as the doorway to these things. (The scripture and this writing do not match up…maybe prov. 8:11?)
v17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
Reciprocated love is beautiful. Wisdom responds to our affection. If we love wisdom, she loves us back. If we crave wisdom, she craves for us too. If we seek wisdom early, she will be with us when we need her. The word early is not just used here to represent mornings as opposed to later in the day. If we look for wisdom early, before we are smack in the middle of trouble, we will find her and can avoid trouble. We can many times get clouded by our circumstances. But if we can seek wisdom early when we have clarity then wisdom is more beneficial and received better. Trying to read a book on how to swim when you are in the midst of drowning is simply not wise.
Lessons For Life – Proverbs 8

11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
Wisdom is to be chosen above anything else we may desire. A new house, car, mate, financial blessing, favor… anything! Having wisdom can help us to get all of that stuff anyway. Knowing the right things to do and doing them helps you in every area of life. If the situation were reversed however, and we had many many things but lacked the wisdom to manage, keep and maintain them, can be devastating. Search out wisdom above all the other things. These scriptures also states that she (wisdom) is not hard to find. As a matter of fact, it’s almost as if she is just waiting for us to seek her out. If we seek her early, it doesn’t say we may by chance come upon her. No! It says if we seek her early we will find her. Early – early in the morning, early before a problem arises, early before you are distracted by other things, early before you lose the opportunity. And once you seek her and find her early, it tells us you will have found life and obtain favor from the Lord. The Lord’s favor is far above favor from any man. So continue treasure troving through God’s Word and seeking wisdom. Prepare your heart to find her with the abundance that she has to offer.
