v3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
v4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

Esoterically, we see throughout Proverbs that wisdom is regarded as female. It is not to say that only females are wise. because both male and female individuals can be wise. The passage talks about the lips of a strange woman. Some may take it literally as a physical woman, but looking at it like the rest of Proverbs is written, it is “foolishness”, or fake wisdom which it is saying appears good and enticing. Her lips drop as honeycomb and being smooth as oil, which all sounds real good and enticing, but really is unwise. See reading about wisdom and foolishness is easy to do and decipher what is the wise thing to do. But when we are smack in the middle of the thing, that foolish decision sure looks tempting sometimes. Here Solomon is letting us know the same thing. When seeking to be wise in our decisions, be careful of the appeal of foolishness because the ways that she, foolishness, lead to is bitter than wormwood. There are consequences for foolishness because they cut both sides so multiple sides and people can be affected and hurt. And finally, they lead to death and separation from the Most High, because He is Wisdom.

v19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
v20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

This passage reminds us as husbands to remain faithful to our wives. It tells us to keep her as the object of our affection, be infatuated with her. Focus our attention on her. Many times in marriage it can be weakened because of lack of attention. Women desire to be esteemed and cherished. We as husbands should be sensitive to their special needs. This scripture reminds of this to be “ravished always”, not just at the beginning of the courtship or dating, but continued throughout marriage. It doesn’t make sense to waste time ravishing another. Invest time in ravishing the one who is to be with you for life, your wife. Not only will your wife appreciate the attention and care you give to her, she will reward you in kind with love and attention. Not only will your marriage flourish, but the word tells us that the Lord will see and you will also be rewarded from Him. (Where is this found?)

18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
This is something Bishop showed the men years ago in the Temple.  It was probably one of the first times that I began to realize that the Bible truly spoke about various topics and you can have answers for everything.  This proverb tells us to be faithful and committed to our wives and that there are serious repercussions for being with another woman outside of marriage.  Marriage is a commitment made by both and should be honored and respected.  In society, there is a breakdown in the sanctity of marriage, and the vows made are not taken as seriously as they should.  But this scripture here is specifically talking to the husbands.  Men sometimes have wandering eyes but the scripture reminds that husbands should be satisfied with your wive’s breasts and ravished with her love.  We can have a long, happy life with the wives of our youth and jeopardizing that for anything else is simply not worth it.

Lessons For Life – Proverbs 5

Video Synopsis: Scripture begins with the instruction to bow thou ear to my understanding. Listening is key. When you are listening you are learning. When you are talking, you are sharing what you already know. I teach my children the importance of listening. As a child people would ask me why I am so quiet and I would respond that I am learning. You should be this way with others and with God. Prayer is not one-sided, after you speak you must listen to the other person. Take time to be silent and listen to God.
