v3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
v4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
v5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.
What a great formula! This comes from the wisest man that ever lived and ever will live. It gives us the simple guidelines on how to get knowledge. Outlined in the Word is the promise and guarantee that we can obtain this knowledge. We simply need to seek knowledge as if seeking out a great treasure. It’s discovery comes with the search. Further in this proverb it tells us some of the benefits of knowledge. It keeps us from other influences attempting to steer us toward other paths to lead us astray. Such distractions lead us away from our purpose. So if we have this wisdom, if we obtain this wisdom by seeking for it, it will position us to have proper discretion. Knowing the right ways to go and right counsel to take as well as the right people to follow. Right judgement and discretion is vital for living the life God intends for us.
v6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
Once we truly recognize where wisdom comes from, then we can focus our attention in the right area to attain it. Many people say they want wisdom, but they look for it in areas other than where the true source of all wisdom is. They may read books by various individuals who they think are smart, or wise. Or attend seminars and conferences. But the wisest man who ever lived, Solomon, let’s us know here that it is the Lord that gives wisdom. And out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. So by studying and applying His words we get knowledge and understanding. We need to become masters of His Word. Having gained a school education is minimal when compared to the vast wisdom that is found in the Word of God.

If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
Knowledge is to be searched out. We should seek to obtain knowledge and wisdom. It should be something we are continuously looking out for… what can we learn today? What new thing can I have a grerater understanding about, which can make me a better person. God is omniscience – which means all science (all knowing/knowledge). As we learn more we are becoming more of what God wants us to be – like Him. We should not remain ignorant but seek out knowledge. It will be to us a treasure. A great find, a great reward.
