v2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

When you have commandments, from a worthy Commander, you are walking in a sure way of life. You know the results, you don’t have to guess at it. So if we hear the commandments, and keep the commandments we have guaranteed results from the One who is the Creator of the universe. We should view the law, or the commandments, as something pleasant to us. The apple of the eye is something that is delightful and preferred above other things. The Word should be preferred above other words spoken to us because they give us specific directives.

v21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
In so many instances what is contrary to wisdom may seem appealing to us. It appears in a way that draws people to it, even though it is not wisdom. It is not as simple as seeing things black and white, right vs wrong. Wisdom and what is not wise is sometimes not easily distinguishable. I refrain from saying ignorance because ignorance can be unaware or not knowing. But what is contrary to wisdom is riddled with deceit. For it is under the guise of something pleasant.

The scriptures say, her speech is fair. This fair speech causes one to stop to at least listen to what she has to say. If we give ear to it we are being set up for the trap. Her lips are also flattering, making us feel good about ourselves. She knows what to say and how to say it. It makes us feel like we’re doing the best, most positive thing for ourselves or are on the right path.

We need to see through the eyes of God and verify these things against His Word. That is the only way we can truly know what is wisdom vs this deceitful imposter. The Word of God has been, and continues to be, the great measuring stick and the litmus test to know what is truth and what is wise.

Lessons For Life – Proverbs 7

7And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

There is a time when we are young children and later in life we become more mature adults.  The points between those periods are pretty sketchy.  We physically have the characteristics of almost being an adult, but our minds have not really caught up to our bodies yet.  In that middle section is where we often do not think properly as we even read here “a young man void of understanding”.  When we are young there are many things we do not understand.  As we’ve read before in Proverbs, we should accept correction and guidance from others.  We all still have much to learn. Youth offers more opportunity for growth and learning. It is prudent to adopt a THINK long and hard BEFORE you act mentality.
