Scripture:
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” – Psalm 90:12 (NIV)
Time is a fascinating and agreed-upon phenomenon. While no one fully understands what time truly is, we all recognize its importance and live by it. Time is a unit of measure, but the true measure of time comes from how we use it. The value of time is not in the hours or minutes, but in what we do with them.
When we invest time in our families, learning, or growth, we can say that we’ve used it wisely. These are moments of great value, bringing a return that enriches our lives. On the other hand, when we waste time on trivial things—whether scrolling through social media or engaging in meaningless distractions—time becomes worthless, amounting to nothing. In this way, the value of time is determined by what return it brings to our lives and what we spend it doing.
But beyond our own understanding, we must remember that time is a precious gift from the Most High. It is not ours to waste. Each moment we have is a gift from God, and He values it greatly, expecting us to use it wisely and to bring forth good fruit. When we waste time, we dishonor that gift, and there is a certain shame in allowing something so precious to slip away unaccounted for.
This doesn’t mean that rest and rejuvenation are wrong; in fact, they are necessary. Even the Lord rested after His work was completed. We should follow His example—resting after fulfilling our purpose and completing the tasks He has assigned to us.
God’s Word to Us:
“There is so much to do for you, My children. I am the Lord, and I have created this time for you. Not to work against you, but for you—to remind you to be about My business. You have many plans and distractions that pull you away from fulfilling My purpose for you and the time I have given you. But don’t waste what I have given you, for it is precious. What I have created is good for you, and it will benefit you if you don’t waste it.”
Reflection:
How are you spending your time? Are you using it wisely, investing it in the things that matter, or are you allowing distractions to steal the precious moments God has given you? Take time today to reflect on how you can better use your time for God’s purposes.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of time. Help me to use it wisely, investing in what matters most—my relationship with You, my family, and the work You’ve called me to do. Give me the wisdom to avoid distractions and to make the most of every moment. Amen.
